Copacabana Palace – A Century of Luxury and Tradition
For the past 100 years, the Copacabana Palace in Rio de Janeiro has amazed its guests. This year, this exquisite hotel, part of Belmond Hotels, is celebrating its century-long presence with a festive programme full of art, culture and gastronomy.
A new era for Rio’s most iconic hotel
In August this year, Copacabana Palace underwent a stunning transformation. The famous pool area has undergone a spectacular restyling process to celebrate its 100th anniversary. This area, now redesigned by Cariocan architect Ivan Rezende – the same one who reworked the Copa’s historic theatre in 2021 – shines with a new glow.
The pool area has not only been simply renovated. The redesign draws its inspiration from the hotel’s archives. With its bright colours, striped parasols, tropical patterns developed exclusively for the hotel and vibrant greens and oranges, the hotel’s history is perfectly reflected. Here, the historic charm of the hotel meets the lively spirit of the city of Rio – a harmonious fusion of tradition and modernity.
And not only that! The legendary exterior of the Copacabana Palace now shines even brighter thanks to a new lighting system. This skilfully highlights the architecture of the 1920s Art Deco building, which stands majestically on Rio’s famous beach. By day and night, this historic building is an even more impressive sight.
An illustrated masterpiece from Vendome Press
In December, the captivating story of Copacabana Palace will be set out in a gorgeously illustrated book by Vendome Press – the first time the publisher has dedicated an entire book to a hotel. The book will not only depict the hotel’s extraordinary history since 1923, but will also shed light on the glamorous era of Hollywood, the colourful carnival balls and the pulsating rhythms of the city of Rio.
Penned by renowned travel writer Francesca Matteoli and through the lens of renowned fashion, architecture and art photographer Tuca Reines, this book is sure to capture the essence of Copacabana Palace and its importance in the culture and history of Rio de Janeiro.
Conclusion
The Copacabana Palace is more than just a hotel. It is a symbol of luxury, tradition and the incomparable beauty of Rio de Janeiro. With its centuries of existence, it has earned a firm place in history and in the hearts of many people. This year’s celebrations and the soon to be published book is just another chapter in the fascinating story of this extraordinary place.
